Core WorkflowsFor users

Attachments

Upload files into chats and workflows, understand what attachments are best for, and know when project or assistant files are a better fit.

Use attachments for task-specific context

Attachments are the fastest way to give a conversation the source material it needs. Typical examples include PDFs, spreadsheets, screenshots, structured data files, and images.

Choose the right file location

  • Attach directly to a chat when the file only matters for the current conversation.
  • Add files to a project when multiple chats should reuse the same material.
  • Upload files to a custom assistant when that knowledge should travel with the assistant itself.

Common file-driven workflows

  • summarize or extract key points from a document
  • compare versions of a file
  • answer questions against a report or dataset
  • generate or edit media using uploaded images

Audio is its own workflow

Audio uploads now have a dedicated hub for transcription and voice interactions. Use Audio when the file is primarily spoken content rather than a normal attachment to a text chat.
